Add Punchly to a tablet home screen
Make the kiosk open full-screen like an app — and reopen itself after the tablet restarts.
By default a kiosk lives in a browser tab, which means an address bar, tabs, and the risk of someone navigating away. Adding Punchly to the tablet’s home screen fixes that: it gets its own icon, opens full-screen like a real app, and — most usefully — gives you a one-tap way back in if the tablet is ever restarted or the screen is closed.
First, get the exact address you want to pin. Open the Workplaces page in Punchly and
copy that location’s kiosk link — that’s the URL each device should open. Do this once per tablet, on
the tablet itself.
Android (Chrome)
- Open Chrome and go to the workplace’s kiosk link.
- Tap the ⋮ menu (top-right).
- Tap Add to Home screen (on some devices it’s Install app).
- Give it a name like “Clock in” and confirm. An icon appears on the home screen.
- Open it from that icon — it launches full-screen, with no address bar.
iPad / iPhone (Safari)
- Open Safari (this only works in Safari, not Chrome on iOS) and go to the kiosk link.
- Tap the Share button (the square with an upward arrow).
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Name it “Clock in” and tap Add.
- Launch it from the new home-screen icon — it opens full-screen.
Why this matters for restarts
Tablets reboot — a power blip, a system update, someone holding the button. When that happens the browser won’t always reopen your kiosk on its own. With a home-screen icon, getting back to the clock-in screen is a single tap that anyone on the team can do, instead of hunting for a URL.
Want the kiosk to survive a restart with zero taps and stop staff leaving the page entirely?
Pair this with locking the tablet to
Punchly.
